Trend Watching at Fashion Week: A Time For Chokers

You know a trend has hit when it takes over the style set by force, from celebrities, to models and fashion bloggers the world over, the choker necklace has become the number one accessory to be seen in. Everyone who’s anyone is choosing to don a chic choker – from glamorous, evening-worthy ones, to a plain black velvet chokers that lends a punkier edge to day dressing.

We spotted the theme taking spotlight at the recent Fashion Weeks, both on and off the Spring/Summer runways. Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, Olivia Palermo and the supermodels of the moment were all papped wearing their chokers of choice.

NEW YORK

In New York, we saw supermodel Karlie Kloss wearing her choker with the most glamorous of evening dresses at Tom Ford. Then we spotted Kylie Jenner in an ornate jewel encrusted one at the Nylon Magazine Party. Paris Hilton opted for a plain black choker which gave a more grungy aesthetic to her leather look.

LONDON

In London, we saw chokers on the front row and on the streets style stars. Jessica Hart, Ellie Goulding, Tanya Burr, Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin all wore simple black chokers.

Eyelashes Made For You!

False eyelashes can instantly make your eyes look bigger, brighter and more prominent. Finding the perfect mink eyelashes for your eye shape can seem a little tricky at first. But the key to finding the style that suits you most isidentifying your eye shape! In this post, we will help you identify your eye shape and find suitable lashes to complement your facial anatomy.

Close-set eyes: Close-set eyes are spaced less than one eyeball width apart and need lashes that are tapered (longer on the ends) to create the illusion of elongation. Opt for flared lashes with the longest hairs concentrated at the outer corners like Ella or Sophie Lux to draw attention towards the outer corners of your eyes.

Deep-set eyes: Deep-set eyes are set deep into the skull with a more prominent brow bone. Opt for wispy lashes with extra length that will bring out your eyes while taking front stage over your lids. We suggest the Marilyn, Patricia, Raquel and Lola Lux that features wispy natural-looking ends and a medium volume to switch focus from your brow bone to the center of your eyes.

Down-turned eyes: This shape has a slight drop on the outer corners. You will need to create symmetry and an upwards illusion to correct this drop with extra long lashes that are tapered at the ends like the Marilyn Lux, Elizabeth, and Ella.

Small eyes: Small eyes are proportionally smaller than the rest of the facial features. You need to select eyelashes that look as natural as possible and are not too thick or heavy as those will only make your eyes appear smaller. You can opt for tapered or winged lashes that will make your eyes look wider by putting focus on the outer corners like the Flutterfluff Twiggy or Ella. Or if you want to make your eyes appear larger and rounder, start by curling your lashes with a lash curler to open up your eyes and go for double tapered lashes that are longer in the center and shorter on the two outer corners like the Natalie, Jackie and Lucy.

Hooded & Heavy Lidded eyes: Frame your eyes by selecting a pair of double tapered lashes with short and long strands that feature the longest lashes right above your pupil like the Patricia, Natalie and Silva. Hooded eyes have a veil of skin that droops over the crease and make the moving part of your lid appear smaller. To prevent this extra layer of skin from taking center stage we suggest long lashes that move focus upwards towards your brow bone.

Round eyes: Round eyes are large eyes with their width and height being nearly the same. To accentuate the circular shape of your eyes wear long, tapered (longer on the ends), and dramatic false eyelashes that fan outwards like the Elizabeth, Marilyn Lux and Georgina avoid lashes that are too thick and double tapered as they can actually make your large eyes look rounder and smaller.

Wide-set: You will need to bring attention inward for this shape of eyes with lashes that are double tapered with the longest hairs being towards the center. We suggest full flared lashes like the Marilyn or the Elizabeth Lux to help mask the extra space between your eyes.

Monolid eyes: False eyelashes are a great option for girls who have no crease because the lashes can create one for you. Monolids are very versatile, so feel free to experiment with different styles depending on the look you’re going for. We suggest medium length lashes that are tapered like the Twiggy Lux or Madison to accentuate and soften your eyes without over powering this beautiful features.

Up-turned eyes: This eye shape is an up-turned version of the classic almond eye. It features a natural lift at the outer corners which means that most eyelash styles would work beautifully. You can opt for double tapered lashes like the Marilyn, Lucy, Jackie, Judy or the new Raquel Lux. Avoid lashes that are tapered and longer on the ends as they will create additional lift on your outer corners.

Prominent eyes: Prominent eyes are protruding eyes that have the appearance of bulging out of the eye socket. To prevent your protruding lids from overpowering your look we suggest lashes that are short or medium in length. You can play up any lash style with double tapered lashes that are wispy or clustered being the most flattering for you shape like Natalie and Lola Lux.

Almond shaped eyes: The almond eye has equal proportions with a visible lid when the eyes are open. Most false strip lashes look beautiful on this eye shape. Opt for a pair of wispy, voluminous mink lashes like the Flutterfluff Lola Lux or Marilyn and for added flair you can go for lashes that are tapered and longer on the outer corners like the Ella and Olivia Lux.

Also known as lobe earrings, the mismatched ear jacket is one of our favorite jewelry trends of 2015. The ear jacket usually consists of a small stud that goes in front of the ear and a second piece that goes behind the ear and hangs or follows its curve. THE MET GALA 2015: Oriental Jewelry Obsession

This Monday was Fashion’s most prestigious event held at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A-listers and their stylists explored the theme; ‘China: Through the looking glass’ and the results were absolutely fabulous!

With so many precious statement jewels on display, it was easy to spot a few prominent trends. Emerald earrings were the must-have accessory of the night as seen on Uma Thurman, Lily Aldridge, Chrissy Teigen and Karlie Kloss. Statement headpieces made all heads turn on the red carpet and we couldn’t get enough of Kate Hudson’s yellow diamond floral headpiece. We also spotted last year’s favorite ear cuff trend on Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway, and the classic voilette net veil on Vanessa Hudgens and Lily Collins.

DRESS UP YOUR EARS – Ear Jackets, Ear Cuffs, Ear Wires & More…

With so many styles of ear adornments now in fashion, it can get a little confusing as to what’s called what. From the most recent ear jackets, as seen on many celebrities including Rihanna, Rita Ora and Reese Witherspoon, to ear wires and ear cuffs, as seen on Marilyn Monroe and Carmen Miranda, we are here to help define and clarify.

Ear Jackets

Also known as lobe earrings, this type of earring usually consists of a small stud in front with all the party going on in the back. With adjustable backs these fit ears of all shapes and sizes and can be worn with any other stud earrings that have a post back!

Ear Cuffs

These have to be one of our favourite types of ear accessories as they come in so many variations. From pretty punk to glam, post backs to clips, you name it and someone has designed it! Ear Cuffs sit on either the lobe (bottom soft part) of the ear, or up on the helix (upper hard part) and travel up or down the outer edge of the ear, this means the same pair of cuffs could be worn in many different ways.

Ear Wires

Similar to the ear cuff this travels up the ear but the person wearing them has to have a pierced earlobe. The reason for this is the wire goes through the whole and secures behind the antihelical fold to hold the cuff in place. These are usually smaller in size compared to the ear cuff and have a more dainty feminine feel.

Wrap Around Ear Cuffs

These were the first type of ear cuffs ever seen back in 2000 BC but back then these were called KAFFAS (click here to find out more about the history of the ear cuff). They sit simply around the top of your ear and hang like an ornament.

GRAZIA Style Awards 2015: Sophie’s Closet Wins BEST REGIONAL ACCESSORY BRAND

The glitterati’s were dressed to impress last night in their most glamorous dresses and jewels galore! We arrived at the Dubai JW Marriott Marquis in time for a quick snap for the paparazzi, it was the night we’ve been waiting for all year… The tenth annual Grazia Style Awards 2015!

We started the night off with cocktails and lots of chatting to all the nominated designers, bloggers, brands and fashion influencers in the region. Sooner than we knew it was time for us to sit for dinner and let the award show commence…

And the winner is… SOPHIE’S CLOSET!!! We couldn’t believe it, again? This year we were awarded ‘BEST REGIONAL ACCESSORY BRAND 2015.’ (You can read our blog post about last year’s event here)

In sheer shock we walked up onto the stage to collect our award for a second year in a row. With Sophie still in shock, the Grazia team attempted to ask her a few questions. We wouldn’t be taken aback if we see in next weeks Grazia Magazine; a speech bubble next to Sophie with “errrrrr errrrm hmmm ahhh, I’m just in shock!’
